Baseball- NSIC Opening Weekend Moved to Barnes Field for CU's Home Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend's Northern Sun opening weekend 4-game series against Augsutana has been moved to Concordia's campus to Barnes Field. The games were originally scheduled for Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. at Augustana but unplayable field conditions forced the move to Concordia. The weekend will feature doubleheaders of 9 innings and 7 innings each day, with Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m. before a 12:00 p.m. Sunday first pitch. The Golden Bears are 7-8 overall after a 4-2 spring trip while Augustana is 5-2 after their spring trip.  Both teams played at the RussMatt Invitational in Orlando, Fla. The games will feature online coverage highlight by a live audio webcast on MSBN with the voice of the Golden Bears, Dan Flanagan, on the call. Please note there will be a different live stats link for this weekend:

Athletics- Put Me In Coach VI Cancelled for 2010

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University athletic department has cancelled the sixth annual Put Me In Coach fundraising awards banquet, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 27, 2010. Due to spring season athletic events and other scheduling conflicts, the banquet will not be held. The athletic department will continue to carry on the tradition of honoring the "Top 4" student-athletes, and will publicly recognize them at an athletic event to be determined. The "Top 4" nominations are flowing in and under review by athletic administrators with another outstanding class in place. Athletics- CU Names Athletes of the Week

Mar. 17 – ST. PAUL, Minn. - As one season ends, another kicks into gear, and so it goes with Concordia athletics.  The CU women's basketball team finished their great 2009-10 run at the NCAA Central Region Tournament while the Golden Bear baseball team continued the start of its 2010 schedule last week.  Highlighting the play for Concordia and named this week's CU Athletes of the Week are pitcher Andy Fagely and guard Jineen Williams, both leading their teams to success last week.

BasketballW- Skyhawks Halt Golden Bears, CU Season Ends In Round Of 16

Mar. 15 – DURANGO, Colo. - The Golden Bears (26-6) were smothered by a Fort Lewis College (33-3) defense and were knocked out of title contention Monday night in Durango, Colo., 73-64.  The loss finishes Concordia's season in the Sweet Sixteen round of play and advances the Skyhawks to the Elite Eight.  The Golden Bears fought back in the second half of play but came up short of the Central Region trophy to a Skyhawk team that showed control of the ball and composure on their home court.
The Golden Bears fought back from a 32-23 halftime deficit, opening with a 7-0 run and taking a 43-42 lead by the 12 minute mark.  The teams contended for the lead until the waning minutes, the Skyhawks breaking a 60-60 tie with an 8-0 run to leave just over a minute to play.  BOX SCORE

BasketballW- Elite Eight Berth At Stake, Golden Bears Play For Region Title Monday Night!

Softball- Golden Bears Finish Spring Trip With Pair Of Wins

Mar. 14 – ORLANDO, Fla. - The Golden Bear softball team (10-6) wrapped up its spring trip to Florida with two final wins on Saturday.  They pulled out the second eight-inning victory of the season with a 3-2 decision over Wisconsin-Parkside and then walked away from the Rebel Spring Games with a 6-2 win over Ferris State.  The team had a very successful trip, going 9-3 overall and return to Minnesota with the NSIC season scheduled to start up in the beginning of April.  UWP BOX SCORE  -  FSU BOX SCORE

BasketballW- Golden Bear Women Take Semifinal Win, Head To Regional Championship!

Mar. 13 – DURANGO, Colo. - Feelin' HOT, HOT, HOT!  The #21-ranked Golden Bears (26-5) shot their way to an 83-56 win over CSU-Pueblo (21-11) shot their way to an 83-56 win over CSU-Pueblo in the Central Region semifinals on Saturday evening.  Concordia shot 46.4% from the field and hit 13 three-pointers to make to the program's second-ever appearance in a regional championship game.  They play for the Central Region title and a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight on Monday evening at 8:00 pm (CT).  They will play tournament host and #6-ranked Fort Lewis College.  You can follow all of Monday?s action online, stay tuned to www.cugoldenbears.com for all of the links!  BOX SCORE

Baseball- Final Game in Florida Rained Out

Mar. 13 – ORLANDO, Fla. - For the second consecutive day, Concordia baseball was rained out on their spring trip in Florida. The team finishes their spring trip with a successful 4-2 run in the Sunshine State including key regional wins and a victory over a nationally-ranked opponent. The team is now 7-8 overall as they turn their sights to Northern Sun competition, scheduled for March 20-21 at Augustana in Sioux Falls, S.D. The games have a tentative plan to move to Veteran's Field at Minnetonka High School pending field conditions at Augustana. Continue to check the website for an official announcement.

Track- Pimental Takes 11th at NCAA Championships

Mar. 13 – ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Senior track and field athlete John Pimental took 11th place in the heptathlon at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Pimental finished his tour through the title event with 4,660 points.  The final field of competition was extremely talented.  In order to finish among the top eight and be deemed an All-American, Pimental would have had to improve on his personal best and school record mark by more than 100 points.  VIEW COMPLETE RESULTS

BasketballW- Big Win For Golden Bears On National Scene

Mar. 12 – DURANGO, Colo. - With the nation's fifth highest scoring offense, the #3-seeded Golden Bears (25-5) put up an 87-59 win in the Central Region quarterfinals, knocking #6-seeded Adams State College (21-8) out of NCAA Tournament play.  Concordia took the lead of junior Jineen Williams, who finished with 32 points.  The Golden Bears played a solid defensive game with 11 steals and forcing 27 Grizzlies turnovers.  The team advances to the regional semifinals tomorrow night at 6:00 pm (CT) where they will take on CSU-Pueblo, who defeated #2-seeded Wayne State College earlier in the day.  BOX SCORE
