Basketball- WHITE OUT MAVERICKS at GANGELHOFF!

Feb. 08 – ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia athletics and Chipotle have teamed up to WHITE OUT the GANGELHOFF CENTER this Friday, February 12 when the men's and women's basketball teams host Minnesota State University, Mankato on the hardwood. The first 300 CU fans will receive a WHITE CU t-shirt, the first 200 CU students will receive a buy one, get one free voucher for Chipotle on Grand Ave. and there will be contests to win free Chipotle burritos throughout the evening! The grand prize is a BURRITO PARTY for 25, with four runner-up prizes of Burrito Parties for 4! In addition to the contests for free burritos, the basketball should be entertaining as well, with the 23rd-ranked CU women facing the defending NCAA DII Champions, while the men defend a four game winning streak against the 4th-ranked Maverick men, 22-1 overall on the season! Tip-offs are 6:00 p.m. for the women, 8:00 p.m. for the men.

Basketball- Heiman and Hickman Named CU Athletes of the Week

Feb. 08 – ST. PAUL, Minn. - Leading their respective teams to a combined 4-0 record last weekend in the Northwoods, senior Craig Heiman (Marshall, Wis.) and junior Maurika Hickman (Minneapolis, Minn.) were named the CU Male and Female Athletes of the Week. Heiman earns the nod for the fifth time while Hickman picks up her second. Each player averaged 20-plus points per game at Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth.

BasketballM- Golden Bears Win Fourth Straight on Tyler's Game Winner

Feb. 06 – DULUTH, Minn. - Concordia University men's basketball advanced another spot in the Northern Sun standings, moving to a fifth place tie by defeating Minnesota Duluth 86-85 on Saturday night at Romano Gymnasium. Trailing by two with 32 seconds on the game clock and UMD throwing in the ball near half court with 28 seconds on the shot clock, sophomore post Brent Barz (Johnston, Iowa) and junior guard Courtney Tyler (Eagan, Minn.) forced a steal near midcourt. Tyler took the loose ball the distance, finishing in the lane and converting the three-point play to put Concordia ahead 86-85. BOX SCORE

BasketballW- Concordia Extends League Lead in NSIC Race

Feb. 06 – DULUTH, Minn. - The 23rd-ranked Concordia University women's basketball team earned a weekend sweep on the road, knocking off the University of Minnesota Duluth 83-72 at Romano Gymasium on Saturday night. The Golden Bears move to 12-3 in the league (18-4 overall), combined with an Augustana loss to Wayne State, putting them a game and a half ahead of both teams who are currently tied at 10-4. MSU Moorhead, in fourth, also lost, falling to 10-5 and two games behind Concordia. UMD, meanwhile, falls to 9-6 and a fifth place tie in the standings, 14-8 overall after Concordia sweeps the season series. In the NCAA Central Region watch, top-ranked Fort Lewis won both of their games on the road this weekend to maintain their two game lead over Concordia, improving to 22-2 overall. BOX SCORE

BasketballM- Heiman Launches Golden Bears Over Beavers

Feb. 05 – BEMIDJI, Minn. - Senior Craig Heiman hit 12-of-16 field goals and set a new season scoring high for the Golden Bears with a 30-point game against Bemidji State (7-12, 4-9 NSIC) on Friday night.  Heiman's on-cue shooting was part of a 50% team average that helped lift Concordia over the Beavers on the road, 78-73.  The win is the third straight for the Golden Bear squad, which improves to 10-10 overall and 7-6 in NSIC play.  They pack up and head to Duluth for an 8:00 pm game against the Bulldogs Saturday evening.  BOX SCORE

BasketballW- Hickman, Jones Lead CU To Second Best Shooting Game Of Year

Feb. 05 – BEMIDJI, Minn. - The 23rd-ranked Golden Bears shot their way to an 80-62 win over Bemidji State (11-10, 5-9 NSIC) on the road Friday night, hitting 57.4% of their field goals.  With their second best team shooting average of the season, the Golden Bears (17-4, 11-3 NSIC) reclaim sole possession of the NSIC lead for at least one night, putting up a half game lead over Augustana College, who was not in play tonight.  Guards Maurika Hickman and Jamie Jones combined for 12-of-16 shooting from the field and 13-of-13 free throws in the win.  Concordia plays at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday evening.  BOX SCORE

Athletics- Concordia Recognized by NCAA for Game Environment Excellence

Feb. 05 – INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA has announced the 10 Division II Game Environment Award Winners of Excellence, with Concordia University, St. Paul capturing the honor to represent the Northern Sun (NSIC). The award, established last year, was to incite institutions to promote civility, sportsmanship and a family-friendly atmosphere at their athletics contest. Concordia won the award for their efforts at Military Appreciation Day on September 19, 2009, the inaugural football game at Sea Foam Stadium against Winona State in front of a standing-room crowd of 3,615.

Baseball- St. Cloud State Added to February Slate

Feb. 05 – ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University head baseball coach Mark "Lunch" McKenzie has announced his first schedule change of the season, dropping the Metrodome date on March 25, initially scheduled against UW-Osh Kosh, and adding a date on Monday, February 15 against St. Cloud State at Metrodome at 5:00 p.m. for a non-conference doubleheader. The Golden Bears are 1-1 on the season and now have eight scheduled games at Metrodome in February, with two more later in March.

Baseball- Golden Bears Split in Metrodome Opener

Feb. 05 – MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Concordia University baseball team is learning valuable lessons early in the season. Two closely contended games against Northwestern College (Iowa) that were decided in each team's last at bat late on Thursday night at Metrodome. In game one, it was Concordia that was victorious, winning 7-6 with a bases loaded infield RBI grounder to second in a come from behind win. In game two, they surrendered a three run lead after four innings in a 5-4 loss. Sophomore shortstop Bryan Lippincott (Des Moines, Iowa) went 4-8 at the plate in the two games with two triples, three runs and three RBI to lead the squad. GAME 1 BOX - GAME 2 BOX

Softball- Softball Heats Up In CU Dome, Get Your First Look At The Team!

Feb. 05The Golden Bear softball team will benefit from the months of live action played in the SeaFoam Stadium dome!
ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the first time in school history, the CU softball team has a chance to play live regularly during the winter, taking full advantage of the new dome over SeaFoam Stadium!  An inter-squad scrimmage Thursday afternoon was caught on camera and photos are available for you to view.  Find pictures of all of your favorite new and returning Golden Bear sluggers, including the fast-handed third baseman, head coach Bob Bartel!  A selection of photos are posted below, with the entire reel available on the CU Flickr pageCHECK IT OUT!!
