Coach Higgins

Matt Higgins became the first head coach for women’s golf at Concordia University, St. Paul in 2002. He also revived the men’s program and was named head coach of the men's team in 2004.  Since then he has turned both programs into championship contenders. 

Coach Higgins was also voted the NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year in 2004.  He has guided the Golden Bear women’s golf team to a program-best second-place finish at the 2007-08 NSIC Championships.  He’s also helped guide the women’s team to a third-place finish at the 2004 and 2007 NSIC Chmapionships along with their first tournament win in 2006 at the MSU-Moorhead Invitational. 

He has helped guide the men to a program best fourth-place finish at the 2007 Championships.

He also has had four players make it to the NCAA Regional Tournament and one player make it to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.  He has coached five All-NSIC golfers, three all-tournament performers, 2007-08 Newcomer of the Year, five NGCA All-American Scholar Team members and has had three athletes earn medalist honors.

Coach Higgins also keeps busy as the chair of the NCAA Women’s Golf North Region Championship Committee and is one of four individuals that serve on the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship Committee.  He also serves as a clinician at many golf camps and clinics throughout the summer.

Coach Higgins also teaches in the kinesiology and continuing education departments and also worked in the Information and Technology department at Concordia University, St. Paul. 

He has been with Concordia University since 1997. He resides in Lindstrom, Minn. with his wife Kerri and their two daughters, Leah and Kellie.
