Soukup begins his fourth season as defensive coordinator and his fifth year at Concordia. He also serves as the strength and conditioning coach for the athletic department.
The “Dark Side's” 2005 season ranked among the one of the best defensively in school history. The Golden Bears had the sixth ranked run defense in the NCAA allowing 87.2 yards a game. The 2005 “Dark Side” unit also ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, allowing 284.4 yards per contest. Soukup has coached All-American defensive tackle Eric Power as well as the following All-NSIC players during his tenure as defensive coordinator: Travis Johansen, Doug Cox, Brandon Sullivan, Antonio Brown, Jordan Frain, Ben Schumacher, Rojeer Wright, Duy Huynh and Chuck Miesbauer.
Soukup was hired in 2004 as the defensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach. Prior to his days at CU, he was the defensive graduate assistant working with linebackers at New Mexico State University for two years. He also earned experience as a student assistant working with the defensive line at New Mexico State in 2002 and 2003, where he played collegiately from 1997 to 2000. While with the Aggies, Soukup was a four year letterman, team captain and an All-Big West Conference defensive tackle. He was originally a walk-on at New Mexico State in 1997, but earned a scholarship in the fall of 1998. He earned his degree from New Mexico State in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in family and child sciences.
He attended Cloudcroft High School in Cloudcroft, N.M. where he was a four year letterman, two-time First Team All-State and was selected to the North-South All-Star Game. He graduated with honors in 1997.
Oliver is the son of Donald and Jolie Soukup. His father was an All-American at Colorado College in 1957.
