Prior to being named the eighth head coach in the history of Concordia basketball on April 13, 2006, Boe was the top assistant for the Golden Bears program for two seasons, helping guide the squad to a 34-23 mark with back-to-back winning seasons.
In Boe's four years of coaching, the Golden Bears have put together four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in school history, and have collectively accumulated a 71-43 overall record.
In his first season as head coach, Boe led the Golden Bears to their best season in school history in 2006-07 and the best season at the Division II level with a 21-8 overall record. Concordia also had its best finish in the NSIC with a 13-5 overall mark and a tie for third in the final conference standings.
As an assistant, Boe worked primarily with the defense and post players while also doing extensive work in recruiting. In each of his first two seasons at Concordia, Boe worked closely in the development with two inside-out post players, Justin Vandenberg and Ty Thomas, with each earning all-conference honors during their senior seasons.
Boe helped to turn the Concordia defense from eighth in the NSIC, when CU allowed 80.3 points per game in 2003-04 to a league-best 65.3 points per game by his first year of head coaching. He was also an integral part of an 11 game turnaround as the squad posted 18 wins in his first season on the coaching staff.
While defense is a top priority, Boe will also look to build a more balanced offensive attack. "We are going to look to spread the ball around more and have four or five players average in double-figures," Boe commented on what to expect from his coaching style.
Boe's background includes two successful NCAA Division II assistant coaching runs with St. Cloud State University (1997-99) and Minnesota State University, Mankato (2001-03). While with SCSU, Boe worked primarily with scouting and recruiting and assisted in recruiting two-time North Central Conference Most Valuable Player Forrest Witt, who was a top assistant coach on the CU staff for multiple seasons for Coach Boe.
In between his two NCAA DII stints, Boe had a two year stop at Madison Area Technical College, where he was an assistant for one season before taking over as head coach and guiding the squad to a Wisconsin Technical College League title in the 2000-01 season.
At Minnesota State, Boe was involved in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the coaching staff, but primarily worked with scouting and recruiting.
He started his career at St. John's University as an assistant coach where he was able to learn under Jim Smith, who is the all-time winningest collegiate basketball coach in the state of Minnesota.
Boe has a master's degree in sports management from St. Cloud State and a bachelor of science in education/sports management from St. John's University, graduating from SJU in 1996.
