Concordia Finishes Fall Season With Loss to Upper Iowa

Oct. 16– The Concordia men's and women's golf team finished their 2006 fall season in the inaugural CMH Golden Feather Cup at Deacon's Lodge Golf Club in Nisswa, Minnesota.  Upper Iowa defeated Concordia in a tournament set up similarly to the Ryder Cup.  Upper Iowa finished with 11.5 points, while Concorida had 7.5 points.

On day one the two teams split into mixed pairs except for one pair on each team consisted of two women. The first day's format divided the 18-holes into three sections. Holes 1-6 were to be played by Four-Ball rules, where each player plays their own ball, but only the top score for each pair is recorded. Holes 7-12 were to be played as a Scramble, where each pair played each of their shots from the same place. Holes 13-18 were to be played by Scotch Four-Ball rules, where each player tees off and then completes the hole using their partner's ball and only the best score is recorded.

Concordia won four of the matches to lead  4-2 after day one.  Concordia got wins from:
Nick Gallaway and Kelly Godwin
Danny Johnson and Amanda Bearson
Matt Alford and Kelsey Walt
Steven Atwood and Carley Paulseth

Day two consisted of match play in singles competition. Concordia got singles wins from Carley Paulseth (2 and 1),  Kelsey Walt (2 and 1), Danny Johnson (1 up) amd Steven Atwood tied his match with Josh Wells, UIU's #1 player.  Upper Iowa finished with a 11.5 to 7.5 victory and captured the Golden Feather.
