Candace Olstad and Craig Heiman Named CU Athletes of the Week

Dec. 22

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University athletics has announced that senior Candace Olstad and junior Craig Heiman have been deemed this week's CU Athletes of the Week.  Both of the hardcourt standouts peaked the 1,000 point marks of their careers and, with their help, the Golden Bear basketball squads went a combined 3-0 in non-conference play last week.

Craig Heiman (F, 6-5, 230, Jr., Marshall, Wis. / Marshall HS) was the catalyst for Concordia in their 88-84 overtime win over Division III Northwestern College on Thursday. Heiman paced CU with 28 points, but none were bigger than the game tying three-pointer with 1.5 seconds in regulation to cap a five point comeback in the last 12 seconds to force the extra session. In the second half, Heiman knocked down one of his five three-pointers which vaulted him into the 1,000 point club for his career. Not even at the halfway point of his junior season, Heiman becomes the 14th member of the elite club in Concordia’s 42 years of basketball. Heiman continued his solid play in the overtime period, scoring the first basket on a hard fought drive through the lane on the opening position to give the Golden Bears a lead they would not relinquish as they held off one of their most storied rivals in the 54th meeting between the schools. Heiman also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists in the win.
