MANKATO, MN - The Golden Bear men's and women's indoor track & field teams saw their first action of the year on Saturday at the Minnesota State open in Mankato, Minn. The Concordia men's team was picked 7th in the NSIC preseason poll. The women's team was picked 11th in the preseason poll. Both teams were looking for a strong performance against other NSIC competition. RESULTS
The days events were highlighted with strong performances by both the men and women in the field events. Kaysee Nesmoe (Jr., Mountain Lake, Minn.) set a new school record in the shot put, taking sixth place with a throw of 12.53 m (41f, 1.5in). Another school record was set in this season-opening meet with Adam LeMay's (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) 4.65 m (15f, 3in) jump, puttin him in third place in a heavy field of competition. Katie Johnson (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.) placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.38 meters. John Pimental (Sr., Ripon, Wis.) placed third in the long jump with a jump of 7.05 meters.
The running events had a number of strong finishes by the men. Diahn Zeon (So., Edina, Minn.) placed third in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds. Domonique Gilmer (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.54 seconds. The men's 4x400 meter relay team got off to a strong start, placing second with a time of 3:26.23.
The women's running events were highlighted by another strong finish by Johnson. Johnson placed third in the 300 meter dash with a time of 43.25 seconds.
The track teams will not see action again until January 9, 2010 when they will compete in the Northwest Open hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.
