ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia has announced that junior basketball standouts Craig Heiman and Jamie Jones have been named the CU Athletes of the Week for their performances over the Thanksgiving weekend on their respective road trips.
Craig Heiman (F, 6-5, 230, Jr., Marshall, Wis. / Marshall HS) averaged 17.0 points and buried six three-pointers on the weekend for Concordia as the Golden Bears competed in the Otter Classic in Monterey Bay, Calif. hosted by Cal. State Univ. Monterey Bay. He has scored 83 points in five games thus far in 2008-09 as he surpassed 900 career points on the weekend. Heiman has 913 points in his two-plus years on the hardwood for CU. He also had six rebounds and five assists in the two games while shooting 51.9 percent (14-27) from the field.
Jamie Jones (G, 5-5, Jr., Mounds View, Minn. / Irondale HS) averaged 18.0 points and 6.0 assists per game to lead the Golden Bears over the weekend at the UNK Country Inn & Suites Thanksgiving Classic and was selected to the All-Tournament Team for her performances. Jones had a 20 point scoring effort on Friday night. Saturday’s performance was even stronger with 16 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and three steals in a Concordia win. Jones shot 42.9% in overall field goals (9-21) and three-point field goals (3-7). She also made 15-of-16 free throws.
