Heiman and McNamara Receiver CU Athlete of the Week Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University has chosen seniors Craig Heiman (Basketball) and Maggie McNamara (Volleyball) as this week's CU Male and Female Athletes of the Week. Heiman earns the nod for the first time after his exhibition performances while McNamara is a four-time selection this year as she set the NCAA career assists record in CU's lone match of the week.

Craig HeimanCraig Heiman dominated the preseason by averaging 21.0 points in Concordia's two exhibition games. He poured in a preseason high 23 points at Division I UW-Milwaukee. In the two games, Heiman shot 50.% (15-30) from the floor, dropped in six three-pointers and converted 86.7% (6-7) of his free throws. He will lead the Golden Bears into the 2009-10 regular season this Saturday at 9:00 p.m. against UW-Parkside in the season opener at Gangelhoff Center. He is 119 points shy of Jeff Chamberlain's Concordia career scoring record.

Maggie McNamaraMaggie McNamara, the reigning NCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Year as deemed by the AVCA, continued to solidify herself in the NCAA record books when she claimed the Division II career assists record in leading Concordia to a 3-0 sweep at St. Cloud State. McNamara has now successfully set up her teammates for 7,103 assists in her nearly four full seasons of play. In the SCSU match, she led her offense to a .433 attack pct. while defensively adding to her line with a double-double with 11 digs. She will lead the Golden Bears into postseason play this Thursday evening at the NCAA Central Regional Quarterfinals against Colorado School of Mines at 7:30 p.m. She has led Concordia to two National Championships and an undefeated 2009 regular season (31-0) going into playoff competition.
