ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Concordia University has announced that Rojeer Wright (Football) and Whitney Meierotto (Volleyball) have been named the CU Athletes of the Week.

Wright, a sophomore linebacker from Minneapolis, Minn., finished 2008 with 11 tackles, three sacks and three tackles for loss in a 24-12 loss on a snow covered field in Bemidji, Minn. He was rewarded earlier in the afternoon when he was selected to the 2008 All-NSIC South Division Second Team. In his two collegiate seasons, Wright has earned All-NSIC Honorable Mention and now Second Team honors. He recorded 96 tackles on the season, third-best in the NSIC, while posting 12.5 tackles for loss and six sacks.
Meierotto was everywhere for the Golden Bears last Tuesday in an Election Night showdown that was broadcast on Fox Sports Net North to the region on cable television. In leading CU to a four match win, Meierotto posted 18 kills hitting .378 with four blocks but was even more impressive on defense where she dug up 30 Bulldog attacks. For the week, she averaged 3.90 kills over 10 sets in three matches, while hitting .380 with only nine errors in 79 attacks. She also posted an impressive 5.20 digs per set as well. To close out the week at MSU Moorhead, she had 14 kills and 13 digs while hitting a scorching .521 against the Dragons.
Each of the athletes earn the honor for the first time this season.
