ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University women's basketball team gave the public their first look at the 2009-10 squad on Saturday night, hosting the University of St. Thomas in an exhibition game at the Gangelhoff Center. Newcomers to the team pitched in greatly in both scoring and minutes played in the 90-61 win. BOX SCORE
It was Jineen Williams, a junior transfer from UW-Milwaukee, who emerged as the team's main threat. The 5-9 guard led all players with 26 points and nine rebounds in her first night in the blue and gold. Senior Kali Olstad (G, Elgin, Minn.) appears to open this season where she left off last year, as a pin-point long range shooter. She sunk six three pointers against the Tommies and also seems to be adjusting to her newfound responsibilities in the paint, grabbing six boards in the game.
Another CU newcomer, Chanica Hall (G, Sr., Univ. of Detroit Mercy), made her presence known from the wing with 5-of-11 field goals for 13 points. Jamie Jones (G, Sr., Mounds View, Minn.) dished a team high five assists and had seven points and five boards. Many other players saw extended court time as the team readies for the season opener against Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 20, played right here at the Gangelhoff.
The Golden Bears shot 45.2% from the field (33-73) and forced 23 turnovers, from which they scored 30 points. The team out-rebounded St. Thomas 53-25 and gained 28 second chance points.
