ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University soccer student athletes Katie Johnson (M/F, Sr., Anoka, Minn.) and Arielle Stimson (F, Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) have been named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Third Team, in an announcement by the league today. Lauren Sturdivant of Winona State was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Year while Hannah Bengtson of Minnesota Duluth was named Defensive Player of the Year. Co-Newcomers of the Year went to Jordyn Wallenborn of Minnesota State Moorhead and St. Cloud State's Mary Morhardt.
Stimson earns the first All-NSIC honor of her young career in being named to the third team. The freshman is the leading goal-scorer for the Golden Bears heading into the conference tournament with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. Her 24 points put her in a tie for 4th on the NSIC total points top-10. She also broke into the top-10 at 5th in goals in the NSIC. In just her first season in the navy and gold Stimson is closing in on the single-season record books. As the Golden Bears prepare for the NSIC tournament match-up with Winona tonight Stimson has matched the single season goals record with 10 put into the net. The freshman also ranks third on the single season scoring record with 24 points this season.
Johnson is the second leading goal scorer for the Golden Bears. The senior has tallied seven goals and five assists for 19 points this season. The four-year student-athlete has two game-winning goals this season while recording 30 shots, 16 of which landed on goal. Johnson has played in two conference tournaments in her career at CU and leads the squad into another conference tournament tonight. The stand-out multi-sport athlete also competes for the CU track and field team. Johnson was also named to the NSIC All-Academic team last season.
Kashani earns her first nod on the All-NSIC Honorable Mention team of her career at CU. The senior has been a force for the Golden Bears on the defensive end of the pitch. Kashani helped the Golden Bears defend their goal for three shutouts this season, and five her junior year.
