Golden Bear runners finish 10th and 11th at NSIC Championships

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Concordia University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NSIC Championship race this afternoon in the northwood of Bemidji, Minn. The Golden Bears invaded the Greenwood Golf Course with intentions of moving their way up the list and improve on their finish from last season. The men's squad finished 10th while the women finished 11th in their race. The Golden Bears will pick up competition on Nov. 7 when they travel to Wayne, Neb. to compete in the NCAA Central Regional tournament.

Junior cross country athlete Jake Womeldorf (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) placed 20th overall at the 2009 NSIC Championships on Saturday and has become an All-NSIC Second Teamer. Womeldorf ran an 8k time of 27:00.9 for his 20th place finish. Finishing second on the team was senior Dan Schield (Sr., Two Harbors, Minn.) with a time of 28:42.5 for 64th place. Travis Wagers turned in a performance of 29:02.5  Andrew Wacha (Fr., Rockford, Minn.) and Brandon Kotek (Sr., Montgomery, Minn.)ran in a close pack to finish with 29:50.2 and 29:51.7 performances.

On the women's side, Katie Monahan (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) was the first Golden Bear to cross the line in the 6k with a time of 25:25.1. She took 65th place overall. Seniors Megan Fulton (Sussex, Wis.) and Sandra James (St. Paul, Minn.) ran their final NSIC Conference Cross-Country Championships finishing in times of 25:59.0 and 26:40.4.  The team recorded their first time score of the season with the addition of five ladies running their first collegiate race.  The women’s team had first time efforts put forth by Rachel Vrudny, Brittany Dohmen, Kenzie Tenter-Fox, Hayley Reed and Heather Schmit.
