Come Out To Soccer This Weekend!

Oct. 21

Head Coach Joe Alianiello could become the all-time winningest CU soccer coach this weekend.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - With all teams spending time on the road lately, have you been missing your regular intake of Golden Bear sports?!  Well come out to Sea Foam Stadium this weekend and root for the Concordia soccer team, who has two big games on tap as the postseason nears!!  With a 5-4-1 NSIC record (8-7-2 overall), the Golden Bears are sitting at 6th place in the Northern Sun Conference.  They have a chance to move up in the standings as they host the University of Mary, tied for 4th place, and Northern State, tied for 7th place.  Both games have a 1:00 pm start time on Saturday and Sunday.  Come out and MAKE SOME NOISE!!!  VIEW RELEASE

Leading scorer, freshman Arielle StimsonWith three games remaining in the regular season schedule, this year's Golden Bear soccer squad has an entire list of accomplishments already put behind them.  Rookie Arielle Stimson has already matched CU's single season goals record with 10 put in the net.  She is also tied for the third best single season scoring effort with 23 points, just four points from the all-time high.

Mixed in with senior Katie Johnson's career high seven goals this year, just last weekend the Golden Bears set a new all-time team record with 36 goals on the season!  They are nearing more records for assists and points, as well.  Getting the tough job of protecting the net in her freshman campaign is Kaitlin Budd.  Budd has put in countless hours of work and preparation for the postseason, putting up a 1.54 goals against average so far, which is the fifth best single season mark at CU.  She has made 74 saves and has put up three shutouts on the year.

Goalkeeper Kaitlin BuddAll of this success has come behind the leadership of fourth year Concordia head coach, Joe Alianiello.  Alianiello has a chance to give the program its second-ever winning season and to set a new record for NSIC wins in a season (6) in an increasingly talent-laden conference.  If Alianiello can guide his team to a weekend sweep, he will become the winningest soccer coach at CU.  He is currently one win behind the record of 31 held by Scott Zachmann.

So come out to soccer this weekend and give the Golden Bears a home field advantage at Sea Foam Stadium!  Be a part of CU history!
