ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Concordia athletic department has selected Calvin Simon (Football) and Ellie Duffy (Volleyball) as this week's CU Athletes of the Week.

Simon, a sophomore wide receiver from Shakopee, Minn., displayed his big-play ability on Saturday afternoon against Southwest Minnesota State. The 6-2, 215 pound receiver with blazing speed took a slant route over the middle and turned it upfield for a 46 yard touchdown in the second quarter. It was his first of two touchdowns, but possibly one of the most dynamic plays by the offense on the season, next to only his 99 yard scoring reception in week two against Minot State. For the game, Simon had four receptions for 72 yards and two touchdowns. It was his first multi-touchdown game of 2008 and the most yards he's had in a game since the week two performance against Minot State when he exploded for 187. On the year, Simon has 25 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns.

Freshman outside hitter Ellie Duffy (OH, 5-7, Fr., Fridley, Minn.) had a huge weekend against two of the league’s top teams. Duffy had a career high 14 kills with just two errors against Minnesota State on Friday, and turned around with a better career high on Saturday. Duffy led the team to a 3-1 win over #5 Southwest Minnesota State, tallying 17 kills along the way. She marked a .348 hitting average over the weekend and also collected three blocks.
