Busy weekend for CU golfers

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University men's and women's golf teams are geared up and ready to partake in a busy weekend at the golf course. #19 CU Women's golfers head into the final week of their fall season in full swing. The men's squad will be running all over the Twin Cities hitting a variety of golf courses in the metro area.

The women's team heads into the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships as the highest ranked team in the conference. The Golden Bears are currently ranked 19th in the NGCA Coaches' Poll. Augustana and Upper Iowa share the 24th spot in the coaches' poll. The CU women's team has placed in the top-5 on three separate occasions throughout the fall season. Their best finish came in the Augustana Fall Invitational where the Golden Bears took first place out of 9 other teams.

Laura PettersonFreshman Laura Petterson (Lakeville, Minn.) has provided the Golden Bears with strong play in her first season as a collegiate golfer. Petterson came on strong as the season went forward. The freshman shot a career low 74 in the Augustana Fall Invitational and finished 3rd overall in the tournament, and helped push the Golden Bears into first place at that tournament.

Anne Martin (Sr., Ramsey, Minn.) has had a strong season thus far for the Golden Bears. Martin finished 1st place overall at the Augustana Fall Invite. The senior shot a 75+76=151 on her way to the tournament title. She was backed up by a strong performance by Petterson and the two drove the Golden Bears into 1st place by 7 strokes.

CU opens up play in the first two rounds of the NSIC Championships at Hillcrest Country Club in St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Bears will begin the fall portion of the tournament poised to make a run towards the top of the conference as they head into hibernation for the winter and wait for the spring season to start.

The men's team just completed the first weekend of the NSIC Championships. The Golden Bears finished 7th out of 9 teams. CU heads into their final week of the fall season and will take a tour of the Twin Cities while playing in the Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus. Their first tournament will take them up Highway 10 to Elk River Country Club on Saturday Oct. 10. Sunday morning the Golden Bears will head over to the Links at Northfork and end up at the Wayzata Country Club on Monday.

Nick JarrettNick Jarrett (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) has taken charge for the Golden Bears this fall season. Jarrett finished 6th at the NSIC/RMAC Crossover which pits the Golden Bears against regional competition. The Golden Bears have also received strong performances from freshman John Potter (Woodbury, Minn.) and transfer Cory Pike (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) Pike provided a top-10 finish at the Augustana Invite where he finished 9th. He fired his career-low round of 72 at the NSIC Championships last weekend. Potter penciled in his career-low round of 73 at the NISC/RMAC Crossover.
