ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University junior Mary Slinger was this week's top defender in the Northern Sun Conference and has been named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week. Slinger averaged 7.00 digs per game as the Golden Bears improved to 19-1 overall and 8-0 in the NSIC.
Mary Slinger has led the Golden Bears defense throughout the season and had her highest weekly dig-per-game average of the year this past week. She marked a season high 25 digs in a win over St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon. She led the team with 17 digs to gain a win over Wayne State on Tuesday evening. On the season, Slinger is averaging 4.58 digs per game with a grand total of 298 digs. She has gone into double figures in all but one match of the year and has passed 20 digs four times.
With Slinger's help, the Golden Bears have put together 19 consecutive wins. This is the longest active winning streak in the NCAA. They are on the road this weekend, playing Bemidji State on Friday and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
