ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Concordia University athletic department has selected Dalton Outlaw (Football) and Carley Paulseth (Golf) as this week's male and female CU Athletes of the Week.
Dalton Outlaw (CB, 5-10, 180, Sr., St. Paul, Minn. / Como Park HS / NDSCS) took his first interception of the season and turned it into six points, sprinting 25 yards for a touchdown to help give the Golden Bears an insurmountable lead at the University of Mary. His third quarter touchdown gave Concordia a 17-7 lead in the third quarter, but it was his lock down coverage that helped hold the Marauders under 100 passing yards in the game and a season low seven points, both team season bests. The defensive touchdown was the second of his career, along with a nine yard pick-six in the 2007 season opener at Augustana, which coincidentally was CU’s last road win as their win this week snapped a six game road losing streak.
Carley Paulseth (Sr., Moose Lake, Minn.) is tied for the NSIC Championship lead after the fall portion of the championships. The veteran was in sole possession of the championship lead after the first round as she fired a 77 to tie her season-low round. She came back with an 80 in the second round, which happened to be her next-best round of the season to fire a season-low total of 157. Prior to her senior year, Paulseth had never shot lower than a 78 and her senior year average of 81.9 through 10 rounds is 4.3 strokes better than her previous career-best average of 86.2 last year as a junior.
