HASTINGS, Minn. - The Concordia University men's golf team fell from second to seventh out of the nine Northern Sun men's golf teams at the NSIC Men's Golf Fall Championship played at Hastings Country Club. After concluding their second round of the five round championship, the Golden Bears' team score of 633 is still within striking distance of second place St. Cloud State who has a 611 while NSIC leader Minnesota State holds a healthy 42 stroke lead over CU. Concordia's top individual thus far is Cory Pike (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) who has fired a 72-81=153 as he's tied for 14th in the 45 golfer field.
The Golden Bears shot a 302 in the first round yesterday before firing a 331 today. The 302 is the third best 18 hole team performance in the championships so far while their 331 was the highest team score by 10 strokes in the second round and the highest 18 hole team score by seven strokes overall between the two rounds.
Nick Jarrett (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) shot an 82 in the 2nd round of 5 in the NSIC Championships. Jarrett fired a 157 in the first two rounds and will head into the fall portion of the tournament in a tie for the 19th position. Sophomore Jeremy Tetrault (Forest Lake, Minn.) turned in an 83 in round 2 and finished +15 and tied for 24th.
Freshman John Potter (Woodbury, Minn.) finished the tournament with a score of 79-86=165 (+21 par) and tied for 36th. Kyle Lewis (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) walked into the club house with an 85 on day 2 to finish with a 168 (+24 par) and dead-locked in 41st position.
Concordia's young squad will look for more consistency in the remaining three rounds of championship play, which will be resumed during the spring season.
The Golden Bears will conclude their season next weekend when they take a tour of the Twin Cities and participate in the Twin Cities Classic. This tournament will take them on a journey through three different local courses.
