Brown and Stimson Secure CU Athlete of the Week Honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia athletics has announced that senior Will Brown (Football) and freshman Arielle Stimson (Soccer) have been named the CU Male and Female Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances on Sea Foam Stadium's turf last weekend. Each is being recognized as an AOW for the first time at Concordia.

Will BrownWill BrownThe NSIC’s reigning Defensive Player of the Week Will Brown had an even more impressive performance this week than last week when he earned the honor. The senior defensive end from Shoreview, Minn. broke last week’s career high with 14 tackles while producing 3.0 tackles for loss to extend his TFL lead in the league. Ranked as tied for eighth in TFL’s in Division II football heading into the game against U-Mary, Brown’s 3.0 TFL’s further increased his per game average. He also registered a career best 1.5 sacks and a pair of QB hurries. On the season, Brown is second on the CU defense with 47 tackles with 13.5 TFL’s and 4.5 sacks. He is 11th in the NSIC and leads all NSIC defensive linemen in tackles, is third and sacks and leads the league by 4.0 TFL’s.

Arielle Stimson beats her defender on SundayArielle StimsonFreshman Arielle Stimson (F, 5-3, Lakeville, Minn.) started out the weekend, Friday, scoring both Golden Bear goals in a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles. Stimson continued to shine with her third consecutive two goal game Sunday leading the Golden Bears to a 4-2 victory over MSU Moorhead. Stimson scored the first of her two goals at the 64 minute mark on  to put CU ahead 2-1. MSU Moorhead came back to tie the game at 2-2. CU regained the lead to put the score at 3-2. Stimson's second goal was scored with four minutes left in the game off of a center pass that Stimson shot into the middle of the box in traffic. Stimson slammed it home for her ninth goal of the year. Stimson has scored nine goals, had three assists and racked up 21 points so far in her freshman season. Her nine goals are one shy of the school record and the 21 points are tied for sixth most in a single season.
