Concordia Leads by Seven in NSIC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Golden Bear women's golf team holds a seven stroke lead after the first 36 holes of the NSIC Championships, played at Hillcrest Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5. Senior Carley Paulseth (Moose Lake, Minn.) is tied for the NSIC lead, shooting a 77+80=157 (+13) at the Par 72, 5,919 yard course. BOX SCORE

Concordia was in third place after one round with a 322, just a stroke back of Winona State and Upper Iowa. Despite shooting seven strokes higher in round two (329), the Golden Bears were still eight strokes better than the second-best round two finisher, Winona State, who shot a 337 which was a 16 stroke decline from their first round. The Peacocks, meanwhile, slid all the way to fourth place after shooting just 349. Minnesota State, Mankato is in third (329+339=668).

Paulseth, meanwhile, was in sole possession of the league lead after firing a 77 in the first round. After her 80 in round two, she is tied with Rochelle Schmidt of Upper Iowa and K.C. Kane of Southwest Minnesota State, as they each shot 78+79=157.

Concordia has four top-10 golfers, with senior Jacquelyn Hauser (Caledonia, Minn.) tied for sixth (+20) and sophomores Molly Noser (Rochester, Minn.) and Kaytie Spangler (Ely, Minn.) each tied for eighth (+21).

The NSIC Champion will be determined during the Spring Season in 2009 with 36 more holes to play.
