ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University men's and women's golf teams are set and ready to compete this weekend as their fall season starts to wind down. The men's squad will stay close to home and compete in the first round of the NSIC Championships, while the women travel west to compete in the Maverick Invitational.
The CU men's team will travel just a short distance to compete in the first of two rounds of the NSIC Championships at Hastings Country Club in Hastings, Minn. The Golden Bears are coming off of a strong performance and a 5th place finish at the NSIC/RMAC Crossover last weekend. Nick Jarrett (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) led the Golden Bears and finished 6th overall in the tournament shooting a 230 in three rounds of golf. Freshman John Potter (Woodbury, Minn.) also had a strong performance shooting a career-low 73 in the first round of the tournament. The Golden Bears look to have another strong performance at the NSIC Championships this season as it could carry the possibility of post-season play. Just a season ago the CU men's golf team just missed a berth into the NCAA Regional tournament and their strong play in the NSIC tournament helped them make a push for the post-season.
The CU women's golf team will travel west to participate in the Maverick Invitational hosted by Nebraska-Omaha. The tournament will be held at the Ironwood Golf Course in Omaha, Neb. The Golden Bears are coming off of a 4th place finish at the Mustang Invite last weekend. CU received a strong performance from senior Anne Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) who finished 3rd overall while shooting a 156, and a low round of 75 in the first round. This will be the last tournament for the Golden Bears to prepare themselves for the first two rounds of the NSIC Championships.
Stay tuned for results and re-caps for both of the teams as they compete this weekend.
