Oct. 01

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- This Saturday, October 4, Concordia University, St. Paul will travel to Bismarck, N.D. to face the University of Mary on U-Mary’s homecoming at the Bismarck Community Bowl. It will be the third straight homecoming game for Concordia. Two weeks ago in their first road game of the year, CU faced Winona State on WSU’s homecoming. FULL RELEASE

Concordia is looking to snap a six game road losing streak dating back to their season opening win at Augustana last season, a 20-19 victory in Sioux Falls, S.D. This Saturday, they will be playing at a site in which they have not been beaten, defeating the Marauders 22-19 at the Community Bowl in 2006 in U-Mary's first year in the Northern Sun.

Last week, the Golden Bears returned home for their own homecoming. Although the result was not as ideal with a 42-21 loss to Augustana, the pre-game festivities included the University receiving a $5 million donation for Sea Foam Stadium, a new on-campus stadium with inflatable bubble. Construction on the new stadium will commence following the 2008 football season. The donation was presented on behalf of Mr. Phil Fandrei on behalf of Sea Foam Sales Co.

This week, senior wide receiver Tyrone Ruffin (Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata HS) will continue his quest to break all of the Concordia University receiving records. Already CU’s all-time leader in receiving touchdowns with 29, Ruffin is just 147 yards from breaking the career receiving yardage record, held by Joseph Mapson (2000-03). (Ruffin has 2,596, Mapson 2,743). He is six receptions shy of moving into second on the career receptions list. He currently has 170 while Antwon Williams (2003-07) has 176.

The Golden Bears are 2-3 overall, 1-3 in the Northern Sun and 0-2 in the NSIC South Division. U-Mary is 2-3 overall, 2-2 in the NSIC and 1-1 in the NSIC North Division. This is an NSIC game, but a non-divisional game.
