MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Concordia softball team wrapped up their fall schedule with an exciting 6-4 win over the Golden Gophers of the University of Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears take their ten hits into continued off-season workouts before opening the 2009 season on February 14.
Concordia jumped on the board in the top of the first inning as Abby Brundidge drove in Anna Bjorlin with a single to center field. It wasn't until the third inning that the Gophers got a run against CU's Stephanie Schmikla. The Golden Bears answered with two more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to lead 5-3 going into the seventh. An insurance run was added at the top of the inning as freshman Jamie Lindboe led off with a double and later scored following a Tiffani Rodd single. The squad gave up a run in the bottom of the final inning, but stranded the Gophers with bases loaded to take the 6-4 win.
"I'm very happy with how we've performed this fall season," said CU head coach, Bob Bartel. "We have played up to our expectations so far and look forward to improving this winter as we prepare for a successful 2009 season."

The Golden Bears had great offensive production from not only returning players, but also from newcomers to the roster. Brundidge went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bjorlin was also 2-for-4 at the plate and was responsible for two runs and an RBI. Lindboe was the top-performing newcomer, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. Schmikla pitched the complete game, allowing three earned runs while striking out three.
