Spangler Ties for Second to Lead CU at Red River Invite

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Sophomore Kaytie Spangler (Ely, Minn.) continued her strong 2008-09 campaign, tying for second to lead the Concordia women's golf team to a third place finish at The Meadows Golf Course at the Red River Invitational hosted by MSU Moorhead.

Spangler fired a 79 in the second round after finishing tied for first in round one with a 78. Spangler was two strokes behind medalist Jenna Buckwalter from North Dakota State. NDSU, an NCAA Division I program, won the invite with a score of 321+316=637.

The Golden Bears were tied for first with the Bison after one round, but CU shot a 332 in round two to finish with a season-high of 653. The University of North Dakota, in their first of NCAA Division I membership, fired a 313 in the second round, the top score out of the seven team field to finish with a 638 after shooting 325 in round one of the invite.

All five golfers' saw their scores increase in round two, three of the five had their score bump up one stroke. Sophomore Molly Noser (Rochester, Minn.) finished in ninth place (79+85=164) while senior Jacquelyn Hauser (Caledonia, Minn.) was a stroke back (82+83=165) in tenth place.

The Concordia women's golf team has been outstanding in the 2008-09 season, starting the year with back-to-back first place finishes before taking third in the last two events. They look to continue their strong play next weekend, October 4-5 when they compete in the NSIC Championships in St. Paul, Minn.
