Golden Bears move up one spot, tie for 5th at Mustang Invite

MARSHALL, Minn. - #20 Concordia University Women's Golf team returned to action this afternoon at the Mustang Invite and finished in a tie for 4th place with Minnesota State Mankato. The Golden Bears found themselves in 5th place after the first round of play yesterday, and they moved up one spot to find themselves in a tie with the Mavericks of Minnesota State. CU turned in their score cards with a total two-round score of 653, +77 par. Rebecca Pollock of Nebraska-Omaha was the individual champion while pushing her squad into the top spot of the team scores, as the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha also took home the team title. FINAL RESULTS       

Anne MartinSenior Anne Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) was at the top of the leader board after the first round as she found herself in a tie for 1st place with Upper Iowa's Jill Preeshl. Martin dropped from the top of the pack and finished 3rd after shooting an 81 in today's round, +6 strokes more than she had shot in the first round. Martin finished the tournament shooting a 156, +12 par. With her top-10 performance at the Mustang Invite, Martin achieved the 7th top-10 finish in her career at CU.

Kaytie SpanglerKaytie Spangler (Jr., Ely, Minn.) came back with a strong effort in the second round of play at the Marshall Country Club. Spangler shot two strokes better today and finished with an 84+82=166 (+22) par, while finishing with a tie for 26th place. Freshman Laura Petterson (Lakeville, Minn.) finished two strokes over what she shot yesterday shooting 83+85=168 finishing in a tie for 30th.

The Golden Bears will head west as they travel to Omaha, Neb. to compete in the Maverick Invitational Oct. 4-5 at the Ironwood Golf Course. This tournament will serve as the final warm-up for the Golden Bears as they prepare to compete in the first two rounds of the NSIC Championships which will be held at Hillcrest Country Club in the comfortable confines of St. Paul, Minn. on Oct. 10-11.
