NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Concordia University cross country teams opened the 2009 campaign against a competitive field at the 2009 St. Olaf Invitational. After being rained out last week at St. John’s University, the Concordia harriers added this race to the schedule. With the last minute meet addition, the team competed on heavy legs of a long week of training. Even with tired legs, the team had several personal bests along with some top ten CU performances at the St. Olaf course.
The men’s team scored a 15th place finish in the race of 244 runners. The women’s team did not have a team score, but were paced by senior Megan Fulton who finished in 103rd out of 266 runners in a time of 25:56.
On the men's side, Northfield native and junior Jacob Womeldorf finished 51st with a time of 27:57to pace the CU runners. Backing him up was senior Dan Schield, coming in with a time of 28:09 to take 66th while sophomore Travis Wagers had a significant improvement on his personal best time with a time of 28:19 to place in 74th place. Brandon Kotek and Dylan Olson both opened the campaign with times of 30:20 and 34:54.
For the women, after Fulton was junior Katie Monahan at 26:11 on the 6k course. Senior Sandra James began her last season with a performance of 28:30.
The Golden Bears return to the course in a week when they run at the Roy Griak Invite at Les Bolstad Golf Course on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Saturday, September 26. Fans are encouraged to come cheer on the Golden Bears in their only Twin Cities appearance.
