Men in Eighth after Round One of NSIC Championships

WOODBURY, Minn. -- The Concordia University men's golf team was consistent despite the inconsistent weather conditions at the NSIC Championships on Sunday and Monday at Eagle Creek Golf Course. The team shot a 304+304=608 and are in eighth place after the first of three tournaments to decide the 2008-09 NSIC Championship. ROUND ONE RESULTS

Sunday saw wind and rain with Concordia seemingly unfazed in shooting a score consistent with Monday's team score played in beautiful sunny and cool conditions. St. Cloud State (295+294=589) holds a one stroke lead over Minnesota State (301+289=590).

Minnesota State’s Jon Herzog shot back to back rounds of 71 to finish with a 142 and a three stroke lead over four other players.

Sophomore Kyle Lewis (Forest Lake, Minn.) continued to show his consistency, firing a 73 each day to shoot a 146 at the two day event and is tied for sixth to lead the Golden Bears. Freshman Jeremy Tetrault (Forest Lake, Minn.) equaled Lewis in the first round with a 73 before notching a 79 to finish with a 152, tied for 23rd.

Sophomore Nick Jarrett (Woodbury, Minn.) did well in his hometown on Monday, shooting a 74 after posting an 82 on the first day. Jarrett's 156 puts him in a tie for 37th place in the overall standings, comprised of 55 golfers.

The second of three rounds of the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship will be Sept. 29-30 with rounds of 36 and 18 at the Hastings C.C. in Hastings, Minn. The final event will be two rounds of 18 played April 12-13 at The Jewel in Lake City, Minn. A total of 126 holes will be used to determine the 2008-09 NSIC Men’s Golf Champions.
