ST. PAUL, Minn. - Junior defensive back Joey Lehman (Coon Rapids, Minn.) has been tabbed this week's NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, announced today by the NSIC office.
Lehman was a defensive playmaker in Concordia's tight 27-23 win over MSU Moorhead on Saturday. Lehman recorded his second career interception, taking it back 40 yards for a score in the second quarter, an important scoring play in a tight game.
Not only did his touchdown contribute to a four point victory, but Lehman also blocked an extra point attempt following MSUM's fourth quarter touchdown, keeping the Golden Bear's lead at four points and removing the Dragons' option to tie the game with a field goal. On the opponent's next drive, Lehman forced his receiver to drop a fourth and one pass deep in CU territory. He finished the game with four tackles, three of which were solo and a half tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.
