SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Concordia University Men's Golf team competed in the first round of the Augustana Invitational earlier today. After the first round of competition, the Golden Bears find themselves within reach of the top position, in 4th place. CU shot a 296, just +8 par as a team. The Golden Bears are just 1 stroke behind Winona State, and 7 strokes behind the leader Nebraska-Kearney. ROUND 1 RESULTS
The Golden Bears were led by Kyle Lewis (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) who walked into the club-house at -1 par. Lewis shot a 71 in round 1 on a par 72 course. His career-low single round score is 70. His score was good enough to land himself in a tie for 2nd place with Brady Strangstalien of Winona State.
Nick Jarrett (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) turned in a +2 par performance on the first day of the Augustana Invite. Jarrett finished the first round with a score of 74 and finds himself in a tie for 9th place heading into round 2 on Monday. In his first appearance for the navy and gold, Cory Pike (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) penciled in a 75 on his scorecard putting him in a tie for 17th position. Jeremy Tetrault (So., Forest Lake, Minn.) will carry a score of 76 from the first round into round 2 tomorrow. Freshman John Potter (Woodbury, Minn.) ended the day +9 par with a score of 81.
The Golden Bears find themselves within striking distance heading into round 2. Day 1 provided a tight race for the top-5 positions. The CU men's golf team looks to make a move toward the top-position heading into the second round at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. tomorrow morning.
