Martin, Golden Bears win Augustana Invitational

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - #20 Concordia University Women's Golf team was victorious in the Augustana Invitational today. CU headed into the Augustana Fall Invite as the defending champions, as they also won this very tournament a year ago. The Golden Bears finished the first round of play yesterday in first place and didn't look back from there. All 5 CU golfers finished in the top-20 at the end of the meet. Concordia University ended the tournament +44 par and seven strokes ahead of Minnesota State Mankato. With their second round score of 305 the Golden Bears broke a school-record by one stroke, which was previously 306. In the process, the CU women's golf team also broke the school record for a total two-day score. Their tournament total of 612 is now the new school record. FINAL RESULTS

Anne MartinSenior Anne Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) moved her way up the poll after finishing round 1 in a tie for second-place. Martin takes home her first career medalist honor as a Golden Bear. She tied for 1st with Minnesota State Mankato golfer Kassie Ellsworth. Martin finished the tournament 1 stroke over what she shot in round 1. Her steady play allowed her to end up with a tie for 1st. Martin finished with +9 par and a two-day score of 151.

Laura PettersonConcordia University freshman Laura Peterson (Lakeville, Minn.) continues to progress and make a name for herself as a collegiate golfer. Petterson was +6 par after round 1 and played well enough to move up to a 3rd place finish in the Augustana Invitational. The freshman improved by 4 strokes on her score Sunday afternoon while moving up the leader-board. She finished one spot behind teammate Martin with a total score of 152 for the tournament. Petterson continues to improve on her career best single-round score. She improved on her personal-best (74) by 4 strokes.

Junior Molly Noser (Rochester, Minn.) improved her score in round 2 by 8 strokes. Noser made the biggest jump for the Golden Bears moving from 27th place after round 1 and finished the tournament tied for 12th. Just two spots behind Noser, Amanda Bearson (Sr., Lanesboro, Minn.) finished with a score of 159. Bearson set a new career-low by shooting a 74 in round one of the Augustana Invite. The Golden Bears received steady play from Kaytie Spangler (Jr., Ely, Minn.) who finished with a total score of 160, scoring an 80 in both rounds.

This is the first tournament that the Golden Bears have won in the 2009-10 season. Earlier this season CU finished 5th at the Grand Valley Invitational. The women's golf team will return home to host the Concordia University Invitational at their home Tartan Park Golf Course Sept. 20-21. CU heads into this tournament as the defending champions of the Concordia University Invitational.
