
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Concordia University junior setter Maggie McNamara has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA DII Player of the Week, as announced today by the AVCA. McNamara is a two-time All-American who led the Golden Bears to the 2007 NCAA DII Championship title in 2007 and has helped her team open the 2008 season 7-1 with a current #3 national ranking. The Golden Bears will play four home matches this weekend in St. Paul, Minn. as they host the Radisson-Roseville tournament.
Maggie McNamara racked up 175 set assists last weekend as she guided her team to the Colorado Premier Challenge championship. She averaged 13,46 assists per game over the course of the weekend, an incredible mark under the new 25-point scoring format. She had an exceptional match against #6 West Texas A&M in what was a rematch of the 2007 NCAA semifinals. With 55 set assists, McNamara led her team to a .323 hitting average and handed the Lady Buffs their first loss of the year. Maggie also had three block assists, five digs and two service aces in the win. On the weekend, she came up with 21 digs, four aces and five blocks. McNamara is currently ranked fourth in the NCAA with 12.35 assists per game.
McNamara quarterbacked a team that hit .334 while holding opponents to just .118 hitting last weekend. The wins for McNamara and her Golden Bears were no fluff wins, howerver, as three of the four opponents were nationally ranked and two were seated in the top ten. McNamara holds the top two NCAA DII single season set assist records.
