McNamara, Schultenover Named CU Athletes of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University setter Maggie McNamara and wide receiver Jordan Schultenover have been chosen to represent the Golden Bears as this week's CU Athletes of the Week.  McNamara joined a very short list of NCAA Division II setters with 6,000 or more career assists last weekend, while Schultenover stuck out as the football team's top performer in a non-conference duel.

Maggie McNamaraMaggie McNamaraSenior Maggie McNamara's outstanding assist average continued to climb as she guided the undefeated volleyball team to a 4-0 record last weekend, taking three wins against top-25 ranked opponents.  McNamara (Zumbrota, Minn.) reached a career assist milestone against Western Oregon, clearing the 6,000 assist mark to join just 17 other setters in NCAA DII history with 6,000 or more assists.  Her current career total sits at 6,154 assists. 

McNamara dished out 182 assists for an average of 14.00 assists per set and was named MVP of the highly prestigious tournament.  McNamara went over the 50 assist mark in Concordia's final two matches of the weekend, reaching 52 assists against #9 Tampa and 51 against #12 Central Missouri.  She also came up with an average of 2.00 digs per set (26) and had six blocks.  She is coming off of a first-week assist average of 13.23 that earned her the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honor.

Jordan SchultenoverSenior wide receiver Jordan Schultenover (Minnetonka, Minn.) had his first career 100 yard receiving game in a Golden Bear uniform in just his second game with CU.  He hauled in five receptions for 104 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give Concordia their only lead at Minot State. 

The 66-yard connection came from senior Mitch Brecke as the duo from North Dakota State hooked up for their first career touchdown connection in their third year as teammates.  Schultenover also returned a pair of kickoffs for 35 yards to lead CU in all-purpose yardage for the second consecutive week, finishing the game with a total of 127 yards.
