SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Paced by sophomore Kaytie Spangler (Ely, Minn.) who shot a 74 (+3) to tie for first place in the round, the Concordia University women's golf team came back to capture first place at the Augustana Fall Invitational at Bakker Crossing on Monday.
Concordia, in fourth place after the first round and five strokes off the lead pace set by Minnesota State University, Mankato, fired a team score of 308 in round two to finish 319+308=627 (+59), three strokes ahead of the Mavericks (314+316=630). All five of Concordia's golfers that went towards the team score finished in the top 20 in a balanced effort.
Spangler, a transfer from Truman State, finished third to start her Concordia career, firing a 78+74=102 (+10). She was three strokes ahead of senior Jacquelyn Hauser (Caledonia, Minn.) who shot a 79+76=155 (+13) to tie for fifth on the individaul leaderboard. Senior Carley Paulseth (Moose Lake, Minn.) improved her play by six strokes in the second round, firing a 83+77=161 (+18) in the tournament to finish 12th overall, one stroke ahead of sophomore Molly Noser (Rochester, Minn.) who shot a consistent 80+81=161 (+19) to tie for 13th overall.
The Golden Bears continue their 2008-09 campaign next Sunday and Monday, September 14-15 when they host the Concordia University Invitational at Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo, Minn.
