Lewis Takes Second as Men Finish Fourth at Augie Invite

Kyle LewisSIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Showing his outstanding performance in round one was not a fluke, sophomore Kyle Lewis (Forest Lake, Minn.) equaled his +1 score in the second round to tie for second on the invidual leaderboard to guide the Concordia University men's golf squad to a fourth place finish at the Augustana Fall Invitational at Elmwood Golf Course.

The Golden Bears made up two strokes on round one leader St. Cloud State, but it was North Dakota who took home the first place price, finishing 301+293=594. Concordia finished 300+301=601 (+25) and five strokes behind third place Upper Iowa (304+292+596, +20). UND, SCSU and UIU were separated by one stroke for first, second and third.

Nick Jarrett fired a 75 in round two to tie for 15thLewis, meanwhile, was brilliant each day, firing a 73+73=146, just two strokes above the par 72 tournament on the 7,186 yards played. He tied for second out of 48 participants. Fellow sophomore Alex Timm (Hopkins, Minn.), who also shot a +1 73 in the first round, finished tied for 10th after shooting a 73+77=150, +6 for the two rounds. A third sophomore, Nick Jarrett (Woodbury, Minn.) was just two strokes behind Timm with a 77+75=152 (+8). Jarrett tied for 15th.

CU had a second squad competing at the Augie Invite, firing a 319+318=637 (+61) to finish eighth. Senior Nick Gallaway (White Bear Lake, Minn.) paced the squad by finishing tied for 18th, nine over par after a 78+75=153.

The Golden Bear men will look to carry their momentum to the NSIC Championships next Sunday and Monday, September 14-15 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Woodbury, Minn.
