Men and Women Prepare to Tee Off 2008-09 in Sioux Falls

Sep. 02

The Concordia University men's and women's golf teams will officially open the 2008-09 season this weekend when they travel to the Augustana Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Bears have carried plenty of momentum over from last season when they sent a male individual, Kyle Lewis, to the NCAA Regional for the first time while the women finished second in the NSIC after a year when they cracked the national rankings on numerous occasions and sent an individual, Jacquelyn Hauser, to a regional for the third time in program history.

"We are looking forward to getting the season going," commented head coach Matt Higgins. "We have a very talented squad this year. The women have high expectations and the men will be competing with the top teams every week."

The women start off right away with some of the best competition in the region, as they will be teeing-off against the likes of Minnesota State University, Mankato, Augustana, North Dakota, Winona State and MSU Moorhead.

"This will be a great tournament to start our year. We have many teams that we'll see on a weekly basis there and it will be good to see how we match up with them right out of the gate."

On the men's side, joining CU will be Upper Iowa, Augustana and North Dakota among others out of a 6-8 team field.

Higgins continued, "The men's team is looking to improve from last year and we have the talent level to make a big improvement. I'm excited to see how some of the new recruits perform against this great field."
