Jul. 07– Concordia University head baseball coach Mark "Lunch" McKenzie has announced the signing of Chris Peterson of St. Anthony, Minn. Peterson will join the Golden Bear pitching staff for the 2009 season.
A three-time letter winner in baseball, Peterson was a two sport star for the St. Anthony Village Huskies, lettering four times in football.
"We are excited to have Chris as a member of the CU baseball family," coach McKenzie commented. "We are looking forward to Chris contributing on the mound and at the plate over the next four years."
On the diamond, Peterson led the Huskies to two MSHSL State Championships in three seasons, going 25-3 in the 2006 title before recapturing the championship in 2008 with a 29-2 mark, earning all-tournament honors during each championship run. He also contributed to a 2006 VFW state title.
The 6-2 pitcher earned numerous accolades from 2006-08 while with St. Anthony Village High School, including being named Pioneer Press All-State First Team and Star Tribune All-Metro Second Team. He was a Lions All-Star, a multiple all-conference and all-section selection and was named the Section 4A Player of the Year.
Peterson joins a Concordia team that is coming off of an NSIC Tournament Championship and a first-ever appearance at the NCAA Central Regional Tournament.
