ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University head soccer coach, Joe Alianiello, has announced the final new addition to the 2009 soccer squad, Megan Kurtz. Kurtz's commitment to play sets the current recruiting class size at nine. The Golden Bears open the season in late August on the road and play their home opener at the new Sea Foam Stadium on September 5 against Northern Michigan University.
Megan Kurtz is a 5-10 goalkeeper who comes to Concordia from Tusculum College in Tennessee. As a sophomore, Kurtz appeared in 10 games in the net for the Pioneers, putting up a 1.87 goals against average in nearly 500 minutes played. She made four starts and chalked up one shutout last season.
"I am excited to have Megan join the team for the upcoming season. She is a solid shot-stopper, has great presence in the net and already has some experience at the (NCAA) Division II level," said Alianiello of his newest goalkeeper. "I look forward to watching her and incoming freshman Katie Budd compete on a daily basis for the #1 spot."
Kurtz is a native of Waunakee, Wis., where she graduated in 2007 from Waunakee High School. She was a three-time soccer letterwinner for the Warriors of WHS. Kurtz was a member of the 2007 Wisconsin WPC summer state championship team, and kept goal for the 2008 Midwest championship Lady Blues squad.
Kurtz plans to major in kinesiology at Concordia University. She was a member of the Tusculum College Athletic Director Honor Roll during her time spent with the Pioneers program.
