Golden Bears Add Two for the 2008-09 Season

May. 28– Concordia men's basketball coach Kelly Boe has announced that Thomas Bassett and Sammy Ricks will transfer to Concordia for the 2008-09 season.  Bassett will transfer from South Dakota State, while Ricks comes from North Dakota State College of Science.

Bassett will be a junior from Denison, Iowa.  Last season he played in 16 games for the Jackrabbits, starting three.  He averaged 1.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game as a sophomore.  As a freshman, he played in 30 games, starting six, averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.  He has a career-high 14 points against IPFW and a career-high eight rebounds, achieved twice.  

Ricks will come to Concordia as a junior from St. Paul Johnson High School.  He finished his two seasons at NDSCS with 934 points.  Ricks scoring was consistent as he scored 470 as a freshman and 464 and a sophomore.  In his two seasons, he averaged 15 points and five assists per game and finished with over 200 steals.  He finished as the 13th all-time leading scorer for the Wildcats.

Bassett and Ricks will join a Concordia team that went 16-12 (10-8 NSIC) and posted their fourth straight winning season.  The Golden Bears finished in a tie for fourth in the NSIC.
