Coaching Changes Announced

May. 20– Concordia men's basketball coach Kelly Boe has announced three coaching changes within his coaching staff for the 2008-09 season.  Forrest Witt, a member of the coaching staff since 2004 has resigned to pursue other opportunities, while Chad Welk has been promoted to a full-time assistant.  Graduate assistant RJ Allen has also been promoted for the upcoming season.

Witt, who spent two seasons as a graduate assistant and the last two seasons as a full time assistant, served as the recruiting coordinator and worked specifically with perimeter player development for the Golden Bears.

"We would like to thank Forrest for his work with the program the last four years," says Boe.  "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Welk, a member of the coaching staff the last three seasons will work with post players and is in charge of strength and conditioning for the men's basketball team.  He is a 2000 graduate of Augustana College, where he graduated with a degree in fitness management and exercise science. He also holds a masters degree in athletic management from St. Thomas.

Allen, a 2006 graduate of Concordia, has spent the last two seasons on the coaching staff as a graduate assistant.  He will assist in all aspects of the program.  He was a player at Concordia for two seasons where he played in 57 games and started 26. He averaged 5.1 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.

"This is a great opportunity for Chad and RJ to take on more responsibility within the program," said Boe.  "They are both more than ready to take on the challenge."

Concordia finished 2007-08 with a 16-12 overall record and 10-8 in the NSIC.  It was the fourth straight winning season for the Golden Bears.
