Women's Golf Ties For Ninth At NCAA Championships, Martin Top CU Finisher

FINDLAY, Ohio - Concordia University's women's golf team finished in a tie for ninth place at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships, completing the title event with 18 holes played on Saturday.  The Golden Bears tied West Texas A&M with 1,318 strokes through the four rounds of play.  The team was paced by Anne Martin with a 30th place finish (319), while Jacquelyn Hauser golfed a team best 82 in the fourth and final round (t-39, 324).   FINAL TEAM RESULTS  -  FINAL INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

The Golden Bears slipped only slightly in the final round of play, dropping from a tie with Upper Iowa for eighth place to their final seating at ninth place.  The team averaged 14.5 strokes over par on the day, led by Hauser's +10 performance (82).  Hauser finished the day's back nine by hitting par on six of the nine holes.  She went +36 overall with scores of 76, 81, 85 and 82.

Martin used a strong cushion from the first three rounds of play to balance a +16 score in the fourth round.  She was the Golden Bear standout on the Championship event, averaging a score of five over par through the first three rounds.  She became tripped up from the outset of the final round, however, going +5 in the first three holes.  Martin came back to par a stretch of five of six holes and completed the day with a score of 88.  She took 30th place with a final score of 319 (77, 75, 79, 88).

Kaytie Spangler took 53rd place with a final score of 338 (+50), dropping after a tough final round with a score of 91.  Her weekend marks were 80, 82, 85 and 91.  Molly Noser remained consistent in the fourth round, marking a +13 before finishing her Championship trip tied for 54th place.  She had a final score of 339, golfing rounds of 82, 87, 85, and 85. 

Nova Southeastern University is the 2009 NCAA Division II Champion, downing their nearest competition by 15 strokes to live up to their #1 national ranking.  Nova went +78 overall (1,230), with each player averaging just under a +5 per round.  The overall leader and the 2009 leader at the Championships was Lyndsay McBride of the University of Indianapolis.  McBride had a final score of 298, just ten strokes over par in the combined four rounds.
