ST. PAUL, Minn. - The NCAA today released the accepted list of participants for the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. The Golden Bear men reached provisional marks in three different events during the season, but did not place high enough among the national field to put an athlete at the meet. The Northern Sun Conference made 35 qualifications in individual events (27 women, 8 men) and had one relay team make the Championships.
Concordia's greatest hope for an entry into the NCAA Championships was with Kawaskii Bacon in the 100 meter dash. Finishing the year tied with the 17th best time of 10.50 seconds, Bacon was the first student-athlete cut from the accepted list, which took the top 16 times from 10.24s to 10.49s.
The men's 4x100 relay team, consisting of John Pimental, Diahn Zeon, Bacon and Robert Spence, was 21st in the nation with a time of 41.04s. The final field was cut down to 12 teams with times ranging from to 40.01s to 40.93s.
Adam LeMay was the final Concordia athlete to post an NCAA provisional time during the outdoor season. A leading pole vaulter in the NSIC, LeMay came in tied for 34th in the nation when he cleared the 15 foot, 9 inch mark (4.80m). The NCAAs will feature 19 athletes who all reached automatic-qualifying marks in the event, with a best mark of 5.50m ranging to ten athletes at 5.05m.
