ST. PAUL, Minn. - In the final selection of the CU Athlete of the Week for 2008-09, the Concordia athletic department has chosen John Pimental (Track & Field) and Anne Martin (Golf) for their outstanding efforts in championship competition last week. Martin is a two-time selection while Pimental earns his first AOW honor from CU.

John Pimental (6-0, 188, Jr., Ripon, Wis. / Ripon HS) was the leading Concordia points-getter at the 2009 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, contributing in 26 of the team’s total 86.5 points. He started things off with a third place finish in the decathlon on April 28, giving the Golden Bears their first six points of the Championship. His 6,061 points at the decathlon shattered the CU record. Pimental became the long jump champion on Friday, leaping a school record 23 feet, 6 inches for 10 additional team points. He then kicked off the lead leg of the winning 4x100 relay team, which finished with a time of 41.26 seconds.
Anne Martin (Jr., Ramsey, Minn. / Elk River HS / Univ. of Minnesota) took second place at the NCAA Super Regional 3 and helped lead the Golden Bears to a second place finish moving the team along to the NCAA Division II Championships. Martin fired her best 18 hole round in Golden Bear gear with a 72 in the first round while playing under 80 golf through all three 18 hole rounds. In the final round, she stroked a 74, her third lowest round of the spring. She finished +9 in 54 holes, averaging +3 golf per 18 in the three round regional championships. In the five full events she has competed in for CU, she has carded top-four finishes all five times while the second place finish at regionals was her second and first outright second place finish.
