WAYNE, Neb. - Concordia University senior Kawaskii Bacon became a league champion in the 200 meter dash at the 2009 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Wayne State. The Golden Bear men took fourth place overall, also becoming NSIC champions in the 4x100 meter relay. The Concordia women finished in 11th place at the meet. MEN'S RESULTS - WOMEN'S RESULTS
Bacon earned an NSIC title at the championship meet by winning the 200m dash, finishing with a time of 22.16 seconds against the wind. He was also a member of the championship 4x100m relay team, which topped the field of competitors with a time of 41.26s. John Pimental, already the long jump champion, kicked off the lead leg, followed by Diahn Zeon, Bacon and Robert Spence pulling up the final stretch. The time was good enough to meet another NCAA provisional mark.
The Golden Bear men had a number of other great times on the day that pitched in to get them their fourth place finish with 86.5 points, just 11.5 points out of second place Minnesota Duluth. Tre Sayles was a placewinner in two field events, taking second place in the triple jump with a mark of 45 feet, 9.75 inches. He took fifth place in the high jump, clearing 6-3.5 on Friday.
Matt Eicheldinger pulled in a third place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.75. The Golden Bears took fifth through seventh place in the 100m dash, with Zeon leading the pack with a time of 11.29, Pimental following at 11.32 and Spence running an 11.46 race.
Concordia's women's team got four additional points today, with Kaysee Nesmoe taking sixth place in the shot put. Her throw of 43 feet, 4.5 inches beat her previous school record mark of 41-9.75. Although Nesmoe came up just short of scoring points in the discus, she pulled in a ninth place finish by blowing away her previous school record mark (117-10) with a new high of 130-03.
Katie Johnson added another point to the team total with an eighth place finish in the triple jump (35-3.25). Johnson had both of CU's points on Friday, taking seventh place in the long jump.
The Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth won the 2009 women's title, while Minnesota State blew away the competition on the men's side, finishing nearly 100 points ahead of the Bulldogs in second place.
