Two Become Champions at Day One of NSIC Championships

May. 09– Day one of the 2008 NSIC Outdoor Championships concluded late Friday night in Wayne, Neb.  When the day was done, the Golden Bears women were in fifth with 20 points, while the men were sixth with 21.50 points.  Tre Sayles (Jr., Woodbury, MN) and Katie Johnson (So., Ramsey, MN) each became NSIC champions on day one.

Sayles won the high jump with a height of 6-4, repeating what he had accomplished in the indoor season.  He also finished sixth in the long jump (21-8). 

Johnson, who finished third in the long jump during the indoor season, won the long jump in Wayne with a leap of 18-0 1/2. She also qualified for the finals in the 200m.

Concordia also had two earn honorable mention all-NSIC for third place finishes.  John Pimental (So., Pimental, WI) finished third in the long jump at 22-0 1/4, while Jayme Anderson (Jr., Deer Park, WI) cleared 10-10 1/4 to finish third in the pole vault.

The men's 4 X 800 team of Kris Enlund, Matt Eicheldinger, Cameron Husom and Paul James cut six seconds off the old school record (8:10.56) to finish fourth in a time of 8:04.17.  Enlund, Eicheldiner and James were all members of the old record holding team, set in 2007.

On the day, the Golden Bears had five individuals qualify for the finals on day two in Wayne, Neb.
