Concordia University senior Amanda Yurek has been selected to the 2007 Daktronics, Inc. All-North Central Region First Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-North Central Region Second Team. The Daktronics all-region award includes 13 first team members and 16 second teamers from 16 different schools from the region consisting of the Northern Sun (NSIC), North Central (NCC) and Mid-America (MIAA) conferences. The teams were nominated and voted on by the sports information directors in the North Central Region.
The NFCA all-region award consists of two teams of 13 and was voted on by the North Central Region head coaches that are members of the NFCA. She was selected at third base for the NFCA award.
Yurek, a right handed hitting third baseman, was selected as a utility player for the Daktronics team. To qualify at the utility position, a player must have played at least 25% of their games at two different positions. Yurek, who has a reputation as being one of the best defensive players at third base, also spent some time behind the plate at catcher, where she excelled with her strong arm and versatility.
In 2007, Yurek led the Bears with a .329 avg. while also hitting 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs with 25 RBI and 38 runs. She had a team-best .419 on base pct. and 27 walks. Her .459 slugging pct. was third on the squad and she was 6-7 in stolen bases.
A four year starter for the Golden Bears, Yurek hit .331 (229-692) in 232 career games, starting in 231. She hit 20 home runs, 51 doubles and five triples while driving in 120 RBI and scoring 128 runs. Her career slugging pct. was .506 with an on base pct. of .394. She was 11-12 in stolen bases and walked 73 times. She committed just 31 errors in 232 games, recording a career .961 fielding pct.The Golden Bears record in Yurek's career was 157-83 and she leaves the Bears with eight career records while finishing second in another while etching her name in with two single-season records.
