Supernaw, Duncan to Suit-Up for CU in 2008-09

May. 08– Concordia University head women's basketball coach Paul Fessler has announced that Kelly Supernaw of Delavan, Wis. has signed a National Letter of Intent while Shandrell Duncan has decided to transfer to CU from NCAA Division I IUPUI (Indiana Univ. Purdue Univ. at Indianapolis).

Supernaw was a third team all-state selection in Wisconsin, which selects four all-state teams consisting of all Divisions of play. Supernaw's Delavan-Darien High School finished season ranked No. 5 in Division II in the state. She was an all-county selection, receiving player of the year honors at the county level as well as earning all-Southern Lake Conference Player of the Year honors. She was selected to play in the Wisconsin All-Star Game as well.

"To get someone with Supernaw's talent this late in the recruiting process is a complete coup for us," Fessler commented on Supernaw's decision to commit to Concordia. "She is the long guard we were seeking, she is a scorer, a slasher and we have high expectations for Kelly."

Duncan returns to the Twin Cities after spending a season at IUPUI, where she was a member of the Jaguars for one season after playing her first two years at Iowa Western Community College. At Iowa Western, Duncan scored 480 points in two seasons, averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds in 43 games. She was a two-time first team all-region player at the NJCAA level. She played her high school basketball at North St. Paul High School where seh was a Classic Suburban All-Conference selection. The Oakdale, Minn. native is 6-1 and will be a post player for the Golden Bears.

"Shandrell is an athletic, long post player that will immediately improve our team's shot blocking and rebounding," said Fessler. "Her athleticism fits well with our new style of play that we will employ in 2008-09."

Supernaw and Duncan join a healthy list of newcomers to a prominent Golden Bear women's basketball program that is coming off of back-to-back NSIC regular season and tournament titles, as well as six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and seven straight 20-win seasons.
