Bjorlin Named Academic All-District

Anna BjorlinST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University second baseman Anna Bjorlin has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Bjorlin has maintained a 3.84 GPA and was the leading hitter for the Golden Bears through the 2009 season.  The award is voted on by district 5 sports information directors.

A junior from Hermantown, Minn., Anna Bjorlin is majoring in criminal justice at Concordia University.  She was placed on the All-NSIC First Team after putting up a team high .360 batting average on the season.  She was named the NFCA Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on April 22, batting .733 through six games with 17 hits in 22 at-bats, including three doubles, a triple and a home run.  Bjorlin set a new Concordia single game record during this stretch, marking five hits against the University of Mary on April 19.

Bjorlin came in seventh in the NSIC with a .441 on-base percentage and led the Golden Bears with 63 hits.  She put up 33 RBI, using a team high 11 doubles, three triples and a home run.  She took 23 free passes at the plate and was sent down on strikes only 12 times throughout the entire season.  Anna BjorlinShe went perfect at the plate five times, including her 5-for-5 performance and two 4-for-4 games.  She hit .833 with runners on third base and less than two outs (15-18).

A smart and quick baserunner, Bjorlin nabbed 17 steals for fifth in the conference.  The team's everyday second baseman, Bjorlin put up a .955 fielding average and led the conference by fielding 17 double play balls.
