ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University has selected a pair of sophomores, Nick Anderson (Baseball) and Sami Mattson (Softball) as the CU Athletes of the Week. Anderson threw a three hit shutout while Mattson hit .444 in the final week of each team's seasons. Each earn the award for the first time.

Anderson improved to 7-2 on the season by hurling his first career shutout, a three hitter against the No. 3 team in the Northern Sun, Winona State. Anderson struck out six and walked four while stifling the WSU bats to a .125 average. The only extra base hit he surrendered was a double. It was Anderson’s second career complete game and he finishes the season tied with the best W-L record on the squad. He struck out 37 in 44.2 innings on the season.
Sami Mattson (SS, 5-5, So., Esko, Minn. / Esko HS) was the top-slugging player on the Concordia softball team last week, batting .667 in the NSIC Tournament with RBI in both games. Mattson stepped to the plate to drill a solo home run into left field against #9 Winona State to bring the Golden Bears within a single run of the Warriors, 3-2 in the sixth inning. She was again 2-for-3 against Minnesota Duluth later in the day, also drawing a walk before scoring a run in the fifth inning. She knocked an RBI single into left field in the sixth inning to once again draw her team to within a single run of the Bulldogs, 7-6. The performances boosted her multiple hit games on the season to 12. She put up a .444 batting average through six games played last week.
