Bacon Makes His Bid For NCAAs

It was a photo finish between Kawaskii Bacon and U of M sprinter in the 100m dash.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Kawaskii Bacon met two NCAA Division II provisional times today at Hamline's Meet of the Unsaintly, making a strong bid for the NCAA Championship meet.  He broke his own school record in the 100 meter dash and finished his day by winning the 200m dash.  The Golden Bears had a great day overall, with numerous athletes finishing in the top five of their events.  COMPLETE RESULTS

Adam LeMayBacon's new school record time of 10.50 seconds in the 100m dash was just .05 seconds shy of an automatic-qualifying time for the NCAA Championships and is a new best time in the NSIC for the race this season.  Bacon took second place in the photo finish race behind University of Minnesota's Ibrahim Kabia, who put up a time of 10.48s. 

Bacon won the 200m dash with a time of 21.37s, which is also an NCAA provisional time.  This is just off his personal best and school record time of 21.32, which got him to the 2007 NCAA Championships.

Ted Thuening ran one of the best CU times in recent years in the 110m hurdles, crushing his previous personal best time with a new mark of 15.78s in the preliminaries and taking fourth place in the finals. 

The Golden Bears had two field athletes take second place in their events, finishing behind only Golden Gopher athletes.  Andy Wyss was the runner-up in the triple jump (42ft, 11.75in) while Tre Sayles also posted a second place finish in the high jump (6ft, 4.25in).

Diahn ZeonAdam LeMay had another strong day in the pole vault and took third place by clearing 15 feet, 3 inches.  A set of NSIC competitors from Minnesota State won the event by matching LeMay's season best mark of 15-9. 

Another third place finish was put up by Diahn Zeon in the long jump after he leapt 21 feet, 10.75 inches.  He was followed by teammated John Pimental in fourth place with a mark of 21-6.25. 

Kaysee NesmoeKatie Johnson was a top finisher for the women's team, taking third place in the long jump by going 17-2.  Kaysee Nesmoe wound up at fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 41-8.75.
